What is ISO 14064-1?

This standard specifies the principles and requirements for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals at the organizational level, including the design, establishment, management, reporting and verification requirements for inventory.
ISO organization officially released the ISO 14064-1 to provide relevant clear standards for the quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories properly for the benefit of organizations, governments, program sponsors and stakeholders around the world.

  • Clearly define the scope of the organizational boundary and the method used in the inventory

  • Quantify the GHG emission and removals

  • Define based-year inventory

  • Define mitigation target, projects and initiative

  • GHG inventory quality management

  • GHG report content

We will guide and assist the organization to establish its Greenhouse gas inventory (Scope 1 to 3 GHG inventory) through the following major steps:

  1. Clearly defined the scope of the organizational boundary and the method used in the inventory and report, and either control or shareholding method shall be used to summarize its greenhouse gas emissions

  2. For source identification, greenhouse gas emissions shall be aggregated into the following categories at the organizational level:

    • Direct greenhouse gas emissions and removals

    • Greenhouse gas emissions from input energy sources

    • Greenhouse gas emissions from between transports

    • Greenhouse gas emissions from products used by the organization

    • Indirect greenhouse gas emissions derived from the products of the organizations that use them

    • Greenhouse gas emissions from other sources

  3. Greenhouse gas emissions and removals shall be quantitative and convert each greenhouse gas volume into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 e) metrictons using appropriate global warming potential values (GWPs), based on the newly published global warming potential values (GWPs) of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Climate Change (IPCC).

  4. Establish and maintain procedures for the management of greenhouse gas information to ensure inventory quality.

  5. Retain and maintain supporting documentation for the design, establish and maintenance of the GHG inventory for verification purposes.

  6. Select the certification body for certification.
